Abstract

The article delves into the application of empirical methods for stability assessments of discontinuous rock slopes, focusing on the SMR and Q slope systems. It highlights the limitations of these systems and proposes a modified relationship using Iranian data to bridge the gap in preliminary stability evaluations. The study employs machine learning techniques such as k-nearest neighbours, support vector machines, and decision trees to achieve accurate correlations. The results are verified against existing empirical relationships, demonstrating improved accuracy. The article offers a valuable tool for geotechnical engineers and civil engineers to quickly assess slope stability and design appropriate support systems, particularly in sedimentary rock regions of Iran.
