Abstract

The study focuses on the corrosion performance of a new type of silicon-based weathering steel in marine environments. It examines the influence of alloying elements such as nickel and molybdenum on the atmospheric corrosion resistance of these steels. Through accelerated cyclic corrosion tests and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, the research aims to understand the protective oxide layers formed on the steel surface. The findings indicate that the new steel version with a higher silicon content exhibits superior corrosion resistance compared to traditional weathering steels. The research also highlights the importance of cyclic corrosion tests in predicting the service life of metals in aggressive environments. This work contributes to the development of new alloys with enhanced corrosion resistance, particularly for applications in marine atmospheres.
