Abstract

The chapter delves into the formation of giant planets and the origin of the Moon, presenting a new cosmogonic concept called the 'Cosmogony of Open Solar System (COSS)'. This concept challenges the traditional Kant–Laplace hypothesis by considering the influence of galactic comets and the death of the planet Phaeton. The text explores the two-stage formation of planets, the role of Phaeton in the Solar System's evolution, and the formation of the Moon from Earth's surface material. It also compares the internal structures of Earth and the Moon, providing insights into their formation and evolution. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the implications of the COSS concept for understanding the Solar System's history and the processes that shaped its current state.
