Abstract

This chapter presents a cost-benefit analysis of a Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) pilot project in Long Xuyen City, Mekong Delta, Vietnam. The study focuses on the project's effectiveness in reducing flood risk, improving water quality, and enhancing urban amenities. Key topics include the project's design, implementation, and the use of the Benefits of SuDS Tool (BeST) for evaluation. The analysis reveals significant benefits such as improved amenity, carbon sequestration, education, enabling development, and health. Sensitivity analysis highlights the impact of key parameters like flood risk and discount rate on the project's financial outcomes. The study concludes that the SuDS project is economically viable and provides substantial community benefits, even under pessimistic scenarios. This research underscores the broader value of SuDS projects and recommends further studies on maintenance requirements, socio-economic effects, and resilience to climate change.
