Abstract

This chapter focuses on the cost-benefit optimization analysis of the proper utilization rate of renewable energy in China's provincial power systems. It explores the challenges of integrating renewable energy sources into the existing power grid and the strategies to maximize their consumption. The analysis includes the development of a renewable energy utilization rate model, the balance of power supply and demand, and the role of flexible resources such as energy storage systems, demand-side response, and virtual power plants. The chapter also provides a detailed case study of a central province, demonstrating the impact of flexible resources on renewable energy utilization rates. The findings highlight the significant improvement in renewable energy utilization when flexible resources are employed, emphasizing the importance of strategic planning and investment in flexible resources to achieve a higher utilization rate. The conclusion underscores the need for a balanced approach to renewable energy integration, considering both the technical and economic aspects to ensure the efficient and economic operation of the power system.
