Abstract

The article delves into the complex interplay between joint pore pressure and joint orientations in rock strength, using advanced numerical modeling techniques. By simulating uniaxial and triaxial compression tests on three-dimensional cylindrical models, the study highlights the significant influence of pore pressure on rock deformation, particularly in the context of groundwater bursting and roof fall incidents. The research reveals that the classic 'U'-shaped curve of rock strength with varying joint orientations transforms into a 'W'-shaped curve under the influence of pore pressure, indicating a more nuanced understanding of rock behavior. The findings challenge previous assumptions about the negative effects of pore pressure on rock strength, emphasizing the critical role of joint orientation. This detailed analysis not only contributes to the existing body of knowledge but also offers practical implications for enhancing safety and stability in geotechnical engineering projects.
