Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of residual stress in thick pipe welding, which can compromise the structural integrity of welded joints. It discusses the challenges posed by multi-pass welding, where localized heating and rapid cooling lead to significant residual stresses. The study employs a coupled thermomechanical finite element analysis to simulate the welding process, providing valuable insights into the distribution of residual stresses and temperature fields. By validating the simulation results against experimental data, the study demonstrates the effectiveness of numerical methods in predicting welding outcomes. The findings have practical implications for optimizing welding procedures and minimizing the risk of failures in critical applications such as power plants and shipbuilding.
