Abstract

The chapter 'Crystal Systems' delves into the seven crystal systems—triclinic, monoclinic, orthorhombic, tetragonal, trigonal, hexagonal, and cubic—each defined by unique symmetries that impose specific constraints on lattice constants. Triclinic crystals, for instance, require no special symmetry, while monoclinic crystals have a twofold axis or mirror symmetry that fixes two lattice angles at 90°. Orthorhombic crystals have all angles at 90°, and tetragonal crystals have two equal lattice vectors. Cubic crystals require four triads, and hexagonal crystals have a sixfold axis. The chapter highlights the importance of symmetry over lattice constants in determining crystal systems, offering a thorough exploration of each system's properties and constraints.
The universe is built on a plan the profound symmetry of which is somehow present in the inner structure of our intellect.
