Abstract

The article discusses a hybrid method for damage detection in high-rise buildings at both storey and element levels. The method combines an eigenvalue problem-based inverse solution with an ANN approach to simplify the detection process. The first step involves using a simplified model to detect damaged storeys, while the second step uses an ANN to pinpoint damaged elements within the identified storeys. The article highlights the effectiveness of this method in handling the complexity of high-rise buildings and the incomplete modal data obtained from a simple sensor network. The method is validated through numerical simulations on 30-storey buildings, demonstrating its potential for practical application in the field of structural health monitoring.
