Abstract

The chapter explores the advanced pavement management techniques employed by NEXCO-West, focusing on the integration of daily inspection data and road surface condition surveys. It highlights the importance of the International Roughness Index (IRI) in capturing the progression of pavement damage, particularly in porous asphalt pavements. The study presents a comprehensive analysis of the relationship between IRI values and asphalt layer thickness, demonstrating how a thicker asphalt layer can maintain better road surface conditions over time. Additionally, it delves into the trends of damage types reported during daily inspections, showing a decrease in potholes but a persistent frequency of pumping and local deformation. The chapter also includes a case study of the Shin-Meishin Expressway, illustrating how the proposed methodology can be applied to real-world scenarios. By linking data from different management systems, the study aims to develop more efficient and targeted repair plans, ensuring the longevity and safety of expressway pavements.
