The interested user of fire risk assessment will find that nearly all of the available literature consists of two types of guidance documents. One is a formal standard on fire risk assessment, such as those issued in recent years by ISO and SFPE. The guidance is very high-level and generic. It will suffice to introduce and explain the concepts but not to teach actual practice. Some of the chapters on fire risk assessment in large handbooks such as the NFPA Fire Protection Handbook and the SFPE Handbook on Fire Protection Engineering are similar. The other type is a much more specific guide to a particular fire risk assessment model or method. This might be a user’s manual for the author’s software or a detailed description of the model used in a paper or report on a particular application. …
