DDMRP as Production Control Policy in a Two-Product Closed-Loop Supply Chain

Abstract

The chapter investigates the implementation of Demand-Driven Material Requirements Planning (DDMRP) as a production control policy in a two-product closed-loop supply chain. It introduces a simulation model to emulate the dynamics of the supply chain, focusing on the factory node's decision-making on product changeovers. The study evaluates the impact of DDMRP's main control parameters—lead-time factor and variability factor—on the supply chain's performance, particularly the fill rate. A full-factorial Design of Experiments (DoE) is employed to investigate the influence of remanufacturing capacity constraints and DDMRP parameters. The results demonstrate the significant impact of these factors on the supply chain's performance, emphasizing the need for optimal parameter calibration. The chapter concludes by highlighting the importance of further research into the influence of DDMRP on other performance indicators and the potential use of optimization techniques to enhance supply chain performance.
