Abstract

This chapter delves into the evolution of video compression techniques, from early methods like Motion JPEG and MPEG-1 to advanced standards such as HEVC. It focuses on the critical role of intra-frame prediction in video compression and introduces a deep CNN-based approach to predict CTU splitting, significantly reducing computational complexity. The proposed method leverages deep learning to efficiently predict the depth of coding units, leading to faster and more efficient video encoding. The chapter includes a detailed explanation of the dataset used, the concept of CTU splitting, and the deep depth decision algorithm. Experimental results demonstrate a substantial reduction in encoding time, highlighting the potential of deep learning in enhancing video compression processes.
