Abstract

This chapter delves into the challenges of hardware defects in modern spatial architectures and proposes a hierarchical defect recovery methodology to address these issues. The text explores the limitations of existing redundancy-based defect recovery methods and introduces a dual-phase approach that combines intra-chiplet task remapping and inter-chiplet task rescheduling. The methodology aims to optimize the use of redundant resources while minimizing performance overhead. The chapter provides detailed formulations for both intra-chiplet task remapping and inter-chiplet task rescheduling, along with case studies to illustrate the practical application of the proposed strategies. Performance evaluation results demonstrate significant improvements in performance under varying defect scenarios, highlighting the effectiveness of the hierarchical defect recovery approach. The text concludes by emphasizing the importance of intelligent utilization of redundant resources to maintain spatial locality and minimize communication overhead, ensuring robust performance in the presence of hardware defects.
