Abstract

The chapter delves into the design and architecture of Delayed Switched Cascode Class-E Amplifiers and Doherty Power Amplifiers, highlighting the advantages of switched mode CMOS PAs for mm-Wave applications. It discusses the challenges and solutions associated with Class-E amplifiers, including the implementation of a cascode topology to minimize gate resistance and improve PAE. The chapter introduces a switched cascode Class-E PA with a tunable transmission line, offering a flexible and efficient design that can achieve higher PAE and lower switching losses. The implementation and measurement results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed design, showcasing an 8% improvement in PAE compared to conventional cascode topologies. This chapter is essential for engineers and researchers seeking to enhance the performance of power amplifiers in high-frequency applications.
