Zusammenfassung

Dieses Kapitel erläutert die Entwicklung sozialer, politischer und ökonomischer Ungleichheiten in den Vereinigten Staaten von Amerika im Laufe des 20. und 21. Jahrhunderts. Er leistet einen Überblick über die empirischen Details und die entscheidenden Faktoren und Dynamiken wachsender sozio-ökonomischer Ungleichheiten und bespricht deren Auswirkungen auf politische Prozesse. Wir argumentieren, dass die neuen Ungleichheiten nur erklärt werden können, wenn jüngere neoliberale Entwicklungstendenzen zusammengedacht werden mit ungelösten strukturellen Problemen des demokratischen Systems in den Vereinigten Staaten.
