Abstract

Density-Aware Walks for Coordinated Campaign Detection focuses on the prevalence of coordinated campaigns on social media platforms like Twitter, which can manipulate trends and mislead users. The chapter introduces DECODE, a method that uses density-aware random walks to identify coordinated campaigns by leveraging local density metrics such as degree, core number, and truss number. The approach involves converting these walks into density-aware embeddings using Skipgram and training message-passing neural networks (MPNNs) for improved classification. The experimental evaluation on the LEN dataset, which includes engagement networks from the 2023 Turkish elections, demonstrates significant performance improvements over existing methods. The results show that DECODE achieves higher accuracy and F1-scores in both binary and multi-class classification tasks, making it a promising tool for detecting and classifying coordinated campaigns on social media.
