Zusammenfassung

Mit seinem Film Naked Lunch wagt David Cronenberg im Jahre 1991 eine filmische Annäherung an das bis dahin als unverfilmbar geltende gleichnamige Werk des amerikanischen Beat-Poeten William S. Burroughs. Indem Cronenberg die exzessive Romanvorlage mit dem nicht minder exzessiven Leben des Autors verbindet und zu einem ungezügelten Bilder-Rausch verdichtet, gelingt es ihm, Burroughs’ Poesie ästhetisch erfahrbar zu machen. Naked Lunch lebt von einem filmischen Vorstellungsraum, der weniger ‚erzählt‘ als vielmehr den Text als solchen – also Geschichten, Legenden oder auch konkrete Personen und Orte, etwa New York und Tanger, – durchdringt.
