Abstract

The article discusses the critical role of dynamic comparators in SAR ADCs, focusing on power efficiency and performance. It introduces a novel comparator design that operates in the sub-threshold region with a supply voltage of 0.2 V, optimizing power consumption and speed. The proposed comparator uses intermediate switches and auxiliary paths to enhance performance, and its operation is analyzed in two phases: precharge and evaluation. Simulations in a 65 nm CMOS technology environment demonstrate the comparator's effectiveness in ultra-low power applications. The article also investigates thermal, flicker, and kickback noises, and evaluates the comparator's performance in a SAR ADC, concluding with a comparison to other designs.
