Abstract

The article delves into the innovative use of additive manufacturing (AM) for producing topology-optimized aircraft brackets, highlighting the potential of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) to create high-resolution, high-quality parts. It discusses the challenges of traditional manufacturing methods and the advantages of AM, including enhanced performance, diverse material options, and complex geometry capabilities. The study employs a thermo-mechanical finite element model to simulate the LPBF process, predicting temperature distribution, thermal stress, and part displacement. The Solid Isotropic Material Penalization (SIMP) method is utilized for topology optimization, aiming to minimize structural mass while maintaining performance requirements. The results showcase a significant reduction in mass and residual stresses, demonstrating the synergy between topology optimization and additive manufacturing in aerospace equipment fabrication.
