Abstract

The article addresses the critical issue of load frequency control (LFC) in electric power systems by proposing a novel cascade P-P-FOPID controller. This controller combines a proportional controller with a fractional-order PID controller and is optimized using the marine predators algorithm. The study evaluates the performance of this controller in various power systems, including single-area, two-area multi-source, and three-area hydrothermal systems. Through extensive simulations and comparisons with existing controllers, the proposed controller shows significant improvements in settling time, integral time absolute error (ITAE), and robustness against system parameter variations. The results highlight the superiority of the proposed approach in enhancing the stability and performance of interconnected power systems.
