Abstract

This chapter explores the critical aspects of designing and calculating high-speed train lines within international transport corridors, emphasizing the significance of high-speed railways (HSR) in modern transport infrastructure. It begins by highlighting the fastest trains globally, such as Japan's L0 Series Maglev and China's CR400AF/BF “Fuxing,” illustrating the pinnacle of engineering achievements in reducing travel time and enhancing connectivity. The chapter delves into the impact of HSR on reducing motorway traffic, as studied by Borsati and Albalate, and the optimization of timetables and train frequency by Grolle et al., which are crucial for efficient network integration. It also discusses the development of sustainable transport corridors connecting Europe with Central Asia, addressing environmental, social, and economic viability. The strategic planning and optimization of HSR networks, as explored in a chapter from Springer, are examined, focusing on aerodynamics, technical characteristics, and economic efficiency. The chapter provides a detailed analysis of the forces acting on rail vehicles in curved sections, the importance of transition curves, and the regulatory parameters used in different countries. It concludes with a case study on the design of a specialized high-speed railway section, demonstrating the application of optimal curve radii and transition curve lengths to ensure safety, comfort, and efficiency. This comprehensive overview makes it an essential read for anyone interested in the future of high-speed rail transportation.
