Abstract

This study focuses on the identification and analysis of crash black spots on Indian roads, particularly on National Highway 66 in Kollam district. The research employs a sliding window method based on MoRTH guidelines to detect high-risk areas, comparing it with traditional fixed-segment methods. Key findings include the identification of 162 black spots using the sliding window method, nearly twice as many as the 87 identified by the conventional method. The study also explores influential factors such as gender disparity in crash causes, weather conditions, and temporal distribution of crashes. The integration of GIS technology enhances the accuracy and efficiency of black spot detection, providing valuable insights for targeted road safety interventions. The comparative analysis highlights the strengths and limitations of both methods, suggesting a combined approach for more comprehensive road safety improvements.
