Abstract

This study delves into the critical hydraulic parameters that influence erosion in open channel spillways, focusing on the Romaine 4 dam in Quebec, Canada. Through advanced numerical modeling using Flow3D software, the research analyzes flow depth and maximum velocity at various points along the spillway channel. Key findings reveal significant fluctuations in flow depth and velocity, particularly in the middle width and downstream sections, highlighting areas prone to erosion. The study also examines the impact of a gate separator on flow dynamics, providing insights into how it divides water flow and affects erosion patterns. Additionally, the research underscores the importance of understanding these parameters to enhance spillway design and mitigate erosion risks. The conclusions offer practical recommendations for improving spillway safety and efficiency, making this study a valuable resource for professionals in hydraulic engineering.
