Abstract

The article introduces a novel, cost-effective approach to determining the joint roughness coefficient (JRC) using smartphone photogrammetry. Traditional methods, such as profile comb profiling and 3D laser scanning, are expensive and time-consuming. The photogrammetry technique leverages high-resolution smartphone images to create 3D models of rock surfaces, enabling accurate JRC estimation. The study compares this method with conventional techniques, highlighting its precision, ease of use, and economic advantages. The findings suggest that smartphone photogrammetry can be a reliable and practical tool for JRC determination in geotechnical applications.
