Abstract

The study investigates the impact of green space ratio and urbanization on land surface temperature (LST) in Istanbul over four decades (1985-2021) using Landsat satellite images. It examines the cooling effect of green spaces on LST and the correlation between urbanization indices and temperature increases. The research reveals significant changes in LST and green space ratio, with urban areas experiencing higher temperatures and decreasing green spaces. The study also highlights the importance of green spaces in mitigating urban heat island effects and provides recommendations for urban planning and policymaking.
