Abstract

The article presents a design-based research study on developing a robotics program to enhance computational thinking skills in K-12 students. It highlights the growing demand for professionals in computing and STEM fields and the role of robotics in developing these skills. The study focuses on the implementation of a free, after-school robotics program at a public university, designed to support underrepresented populations. The program's design is guided by Papert’s constructionist theory of learning, emphasizing hands-on, problem-based experiences. The study assesses the program's effectiveness in improving students' computational thinking skills and provides insights into the design principles and implementation processes that contribute to successful robotics education.
