Abstract

This chapter presents a comprehensive study on developing a saturation flow model for signalized intersections under non-lane-based mixed traffic conditions. The research highlights the importance of considering multiple vehicle types and their behaviors, which significantly influence saturation flow. The study introduces a base saturation flow model and three key adjustment factors: initial surge, blockage by standing right-turning vehicles, and bus blockage. These factors are crucial for accurately estimating saturation flow in mixed traffic streams. The model is validated using field data from various intersections, demonstrating its reliability and practical application. The findings provide valuable insights for traffic engineers and planners, offering a robust tool for improving the efficiency and safety of signalized intersections in mixed traffic environments.
