Abstract

The article delves into the pressing challenges faced by the agricultural sector, including water resource management, pollution, and climate change, and the limitations of conventional fertilizers. It introduces slow-release fertilizers (SRFs) as a promising solution to enhance fertilizer use efficiency and mitigate environmental issues. The study focuses on the development and characterization of SRFs based on a starch/polyacrylamide/graphene oxide (ST/PAM/GO) matrix, demonstrating significant improvements in rheological behavior, swelling properties, and mechanical strength. The incorporation of graphene oxide enhances compatibility, dispersion, and mechanical strength, leading to a controlled and sustained nutrient release over an extended period. The article also explores the microstructure, mechanical properties, and swelling behavior of the SRFs, providing a detailed analysis of their performance in water and the underlying release mechanisms. The findings highlight the potential of ST/PAM/GO-based SRFs as an environmentally friendly and efficient solution for sustainable agriculture, paving the way for future research and field trials to optimize these formulations under various environmental conditions.
