In conventional articulated steering vehicles, the swiveling of vehicle components is mostly achieved with hydraulic cylinders, which requires higher steering torque than conventional double pivot steering systems of vehicles of the same weight. The Vehicle Technology and Mobile Machines divisions of the Institute of Vehicle System Technology of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) are implementing research projects investigating the added value of wheel-selective control of driving torques. Together with SHARE at KIT, a first proof of concept was planned and implemented for a vehicle without a steering actuator. …
