Abstract

The chapter delves into the critical issue of construction and demolition waste (CDW), emphasizing the significant environmental and social challenges it poses. It discusses the potential of geopolymer foam materials to mitigate these issues by utilizing concrete waste, a major component of CDW. The study investigates the effects of incorporating ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS) and varying amounts of foaming agents and surfactants on the properties of geopolymer foams. Through experimental methods, the chapter explores how these materials can contribute to sustainable construction by reducing carbon dioxide emissions and providing thermal insulation. The results show that GGBS can significantly enhance the compressive strength and thermal conductivity of geopolymer foams, making them a promising solution for sustainable building materials. The chapter also highlights the importance of optimizing the properties of geopolymer foams to maximize their benefits in the construction industry.
