Abstract

This chapter explores the development of a predictive model for maximum temperatures within asphalt pavement layers at airports in tropical regions, with a focus on Indonesia. The study highlights the importance of understanding temperature distribution in Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) mixtures to enhance pavement strength and durability. Using advanced sensor systems, the research collects extensive data from various depths of asphalt layers at multiple airports, including Komodo Labuan Bajo International Airport and Ngurah Rai International Airport. The developed linear regression models accurately predict maximum temperatures at different depths, validated through low Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) values. The findings emphasize the significance of temperature prediction in selecting appropriate Performance Graded (PG) binders for improved pavement performance and longevity. The research concludes with recommendations for future studies to enhance the model's accuracy and applicability across diverse climatic conditions.
