We recently proposed an innovative agile crossbar switch architecture called Contention-Tolerant Crossbar Switch, denoted as
CTC
(
N
), where
N
is the number of input/output ports.
CTC
(
N
) can tolerate output contentions instead of resolving them by complex hardware, which makes
CTC
(
N
) simpler and more scalable than conventional crossbar switches. In this paper, we analyze the main factors that influence the performance of
CTC
(
N
) and present an improved contention tolerant switch architecture - Diagonalized Contention-Tolerant Crossbar Switch, denoted as
DiaCTC
(
N
).
DiaCTC
(
N
) maintains all good features of
CTC
(
N
), including fully distributed cell scheduling and low complexity. Simulation results show that, without additional cost, the performance of
DiaCTC
(
N
) is significantly better than
CTC
(
N
).
