Abstract

The article delves into the diagenesis and genetic model of calcareous interbeds in marine strata, specifically in the Zhujiang Formation of the Wenchang Oil Field. These interbeds, primarily composed of bioclastic limestones and calcareous sandstones, significantly influence oil reservoir distribution and production. The study employs core observations, thin-section analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and stable isotope data to reveal that the pore fluids forming the carbonate cements were mainly seawater, with some contribution from meteoric water. The high content of bioclasts in these interbeds provides the primary source of Ca ions for carbonate cementation, leading to strong cementation and low permeability. The authors propose both macroscopic and microscopic models for the formation of these interbeds, highlighting the complex interplay between sedimentary environments and diagenetic processes. This research offers valuable insights into the characterization and management of oil reservoirs, particularly in the later stages of oil production.
