About this book

Vol. IV of the dictionary deals with tasks of assembly in manufacturing, the methods and mechanisms of controlling them. Thus, the volume is interesting for both production engineers and managers. It covers pure technical terminology but also related subjects like organization and quality. Correspondingly, it also contains a broad range of terms and definitions.

Frontmatter
I. General Terms
Abstract
The increase in value of a product or item as a result of an activity required in its production. It is computed as the difference between the value of goods and services generated by an activity and the value of goods and services supplied to an activity.
C.I.R.P. Office
II. Assembly System
Abstract
Production area where assembly is carried out. It includes not only the space required for equipment and operators, but also the space required for the storage of components and finished products.
C.I.R.P. Office
III. Assembly Process
Abstract
A connection with geometric interference between items, enabling forces to be transmitted by local friction at the points of contact.
C.I.R.P. Office
IV. Assembly Organization
Abstract
The coordination of materials, personnel and other resources for proper order processing in assembly.
C.I.R.P. Office
V. Assembly Planning
Abstract
Scientific study of measurements of the human body, in terms of the average and range of values. Manual assembly workplaces are designed according to anthropometric principles (see Ergonomics).
C.I.R.P. Office
VI. Assembly Operation
Abstract
Periodically planned actions to keep equipment in good conditions, preserve its intended functions and detect problems before they lead to important failures.
