Abstract

The article delves into the transformative potential of the digital economy in mitigating carbon emissions, a critical challenge exacerbated by rapid industrialization and urbanization. It examines the spatial dynamics and heterogeneity of carbon emissions across Chinese provinces, highlighting the significant role of digitalization in restructuring industrial chains and enhancing efficiency. The study employs innovative methodologies, including spatial econometric models and quantile regression, to quantify the digital economy's influence on carbon emission intensity. By analyzing data from 30 provinces over a decade, the article reveals distinct geographical patterns and spatial clustering of carbon emissions, underscoring the need for region-specific strategies. The research provides empirical evidence on how digital infrastructure, industrial digitization, and technological advancements can drive low-carbon development, offering valuable insights for policymakers aiming to achieve carbon peak and neutrality goals.
