Abstract

The chapter delves into the transformative potential of digital fabrication methods in construction, focusing on their ability to reduce carbon footprints and waste generation. It explores various techniques, including Shotcrete 3D Printing, Robotic Rammed Earth, and Large Particle 3D Concrete Printing, each offering unique advantages for sustainable building practices. The text highlights the use of advanced technologies such as robotics and automated processes to enhance precision, speed, and material efficiency. Additionally, it discusses the reuse of concrete components and the development of reusable wax formwork technology, which contribute to circular construction practices. The chapter also touches on the integration of Wire-and-Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) with mass-produced elements, demonstrating the potential for hybrid approaches in structural design. Overall, the chapter presents a compelling case for the adoption of digital fabrication methods to achieve more sustainable and resource-efficient construction practices.
