Abstract

The chapter begins by introducing the general aspects of partial discharge signals and the challenges of measuring them in the presence of powerline signals, background noise, and other interferences. It then delves into the specifics of signal acquisition and conditioning, including the use of capacitive sensors and analog-to-digital converters. The core of the chapter focuses on denoising techniques such as linear time-invariant filtering and wavelet thresholding, which are crucial for extracting meaningful features from partial discharge signals. The author also discusses the classification of partial discharges using artificial neural networks, highlighting the development of a methodology for automatic recognition of PD sources in hydrogenerator stator bars. The chapter concludes with a practical example and the development of a graphical user interface for decision-making, emphasizing the real-world applicability of the proposed techniques.
