Abstract

Disabled people often face the challenge of non-inclusiveness in the digital transformation of manufacturing industries and value creation processes. In many countries, the idea of normalisation and the social role of valorisation has been inspirational. The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India (GoI) has been creating policies and schemes that promote skill development of Persons with Disabilities (PwDs). This involves enhancing their knowledge, skills, and employability. The implementation of these skill development programmes for PwDs in India happens through the training partners empanelled with the department and through its national institutes. The regional centres across the country create digital courses for the training aligned with the features of industry 4.0 for PwDs. This paper reports a mixed methods research undertaken to understand the effectiveness of the E-Skilling programme from the participants who undertook skills relevant to the industry 4.0 competencies. This study has studied qualitative and quantitative skilling approaches and economic empowerment emphasising to create a society inclusive of Persons with Disabilities.
