Abstract

The chapter delves into the concept of Digital Twins (DT) as a cornerstone of smart manufacturing and Industry 4.0. It discusses the wide adoption of digital technologies in factories, the challenges in integrating DTs, and the benefits they offer in various industrial applications. The text also explores the different integration levels of DTs, from the whole factory to production processes, and presents case studies showcasing their practical implementation. Additionally, it highlights the challenges and future directions in the development and adoption of DTs, emphasizing the need for standardization and interoperability.
