Abstract

Digital twins (DT) are the key enablers for transformation to Industry 4.0 (I4.0), they are required and indispensable to the virtual design and optimization of smart manufacturing systems for I4.0. Recently many researchers have contributed to the development of Digital Twins for smart products processes and manufacturing systems. This paper presents a systematic literature review of recent developments in Digital Twins in I4.0 for Smart manufacturing, by examining the most researches related to DT, and classifying the existing publications according to the applications in various aspects of manufacturing i.e. product design, process design, manufacturing process (such as machining, cutting), additive manufacturing, 3D printing, plant layout design, production planning, ergonomics, maintenance and product lifecycle. This paper classifies, identifies, and analyzes the research on Digital Twin application to smart manufacturing systems for I4.0.
