The possibility to improve the operation of turbocharged combustion engines by using additional discontinuous elements in the air management system was examined at the Graz University of Technology and the Virtual Vehicle Competence Centre. Thus, the harnessing of the exhaust gas enthalpy will be enhanced. Three different engines were investigated by means of simulation. The found benefits are higher turbine power, less pumping work, enhanced exhaust gas recirculation and others. …
