Abstract

The article delves into the critical issue of salinity stress in rice cultivation, which affects vast agricultural lands globally. It examines the genetic variability and combining ability of rice lines and testers under both normal and salinity stress conditions, focusing on key morpho-physiological traits such as plant height, panicle length, and yield per plant. The study identifies promising parental lines and hybrids, such as Bas-198 and Bas-515, which show significant potential for salt tolerance. Additionally, the research highlights the importance of specific crosses like Super Basmati × KS-282 and Bas-198 × KS-282, which exhibit desirable traits under salinity stress. The findings suggest that these crosses could be advanced to later generations for selecting promising combinations with enhanced salt stress tolerance and preferred yield-related traits. This study provides valuable insights for breeding programs aimed at developing salt-tolerant rice varieties, ultimately contributing to food security in salt-affected regions.
