Abstract

This study investigates the factors influencing the intention to use the Metro system in Ho Chi Minh City, focusing on the Big-5 personality traits and demographic characteristics. The research surveys 300 residents, collecting data around Metro stations to analyze the impact of personality traits on Metro usage. The study finds that personality traits, particularly Openness, significantly influence Metro usage intention, while demographic factors have a lesser impact. The decision tree model used in the analysis shows an overall accuracy of 76.0%, with Openness and Extraversion being the most influential traits. The study also highlights the importance of considering diverse community groups in station areas for sustainable urban development and improved operational efficiency of urban rail transit systems. Despite some limitations, such as the modest sample size and the imbalance between 'yes' and 'no' response groups, the study offers valuable insights into the influence of personality traits on public transportation decisions and contributes to research promoting equity in urban transport use.
