Abstract

The article delves into the intricate dynamics of oscillating shock waves in a cylindrical tube driven by a piston. It leverages a weakly nonlinear model to investigate the emergence of these waves as the driving frequency is swept through resonances. Notably, the study reveals the formation of single and counter-propagating shock waves, as well as the phenomenon of shock wave bunching. The findings are compared to previous research, highlighting the unique insights offered by the weakly nonlinear approach. The manuscript also includes a detailed discussion of the numerical methods used to simulate these complex wave patterns, offering a comprehensive analysis of the underlying physics.
