Driving functions as required for SAE levels 3 and 4 are intended to relieve the driver from monotonous parts of vehicle operation in the future. However, it is the networking of numerous sensors and advanced diagnostics that guarantees the reliable functioning of future driver assistance systems. The cover story of this edition of ATZelectronics focuses on these topics. The determination of valid data is a critical prerequisite to be able to develop algorithms that make autonomous driving efficient and safe for road-use.
