BMW, Intel and Mobileye have announced Delphi as a new development partner and system integrator for their state-of-the-art autonomous driving platform. The four partners aim to set up a cooperation model that provides scalable solutions for the entire automotive industry, as well as potentially other industries.
Delphi has already developed a prototype computing platform for BMW and is collaborating with Intel and Mobileye in the areas of perception, sensor fusion and high-performance computing elements for automated driving computing, explains BMW.
Scalable platform for automated driving
In July 2016, BMW, Intel, and Mobileye announced that they were joining forces to pool their expertise and resources in the area of autonomous driving in order to enable series production of highly and fully automated vehicles by 2021. The cooperation partners have since developed a scalable architecture that can be adapted by other automotive developers and car makers in order to pursue their own design options and create differentiated brands.
System integrators, such as Delphi, are critical for bringing the joint solution to the market and reaching multiple automotive OEMs quickly, explains BMW. Delphi is expected to play a key role in integrating the technical solutions delivered by BMW, Intel and Mobileye into the respective vehicle architecture of each car maker. Delphi may also provide essential hardware components, such as sensors, and specific customer-oriented adaptations, as well as additional applications for differentiation.
The partnership between Delphi and the cooperation partners is non-exclusive. The cooperation partners are seeking to bring further integration and development partners on board.
