Magna will demonstrate its new platform for autonomous driving up to level four at the IAA in Frankfurt. What makes Max4 special is that the highly automated driver assistance system should already be ready to go into production.

Magna’s Max4 connects the data from cameras, radar, lidar and ultrasonic sensors with a scalable computing platform. The Max4-equipped vehicles are designed to handle automated driving up to level four, both on the motorway and in city traffic. According to Magna, the module can be integrated into all existing and even future platforms, taking up little space and giving OEMs sufficient design freedom.

Its operation is modelled on conventional pushbutton cruise control. The driver can see whether the vehicle is in autonomous mode via a backlit display. As usual, the system can be deactivated by operating the brake or an emergency switch.

Magna’s Max4 is already ready to go into production

Magna has reported that its new, flexible platform, which is also geared to large-scale manufacturing, is now ready for series production: "Our focus is on developing production-ready solutions that offer flexibility to integrate and the framework to enable level four technology for when the market is ready", says Swamy Kotagiri, Magna’s Chief Technology Officer.

Magna will unveil its Max4 system at this year’s IAA and announce further details there.
