Zusammenfassung

Nach einer neuen Studie von McKinsey mit dem Titel „The endgame for postal networks. How to win in the age of ecommerce“ wird der Anteil des Online-Handels am gesamten Einzelhandel von heute 9 % bis zum Jahr 2030 auf dann 25–30 % ansteigen (zit. nach LOGMail, 21.06.2019). Man kann deshalb heute kein Buch mehr über Handelslogistik schreiben, ohne den Einfluss des Internets auf die Handelslandschaft zu beleuchten. Aus systematischer Sicht sprengt dieser Schritt insofern den Rahmen der bisherigen Betrachtung von Distributionssystemen, als hier erstmals Konsumenten mit ihren Ansprüchen und Präferenzen direkt als systemmitbestimmende „Senken“ der Warenflüsse in Erscheinung treten. Man spricht hier mit einer englischsprachigen Abkürzung auch von dem „BtoC-Segment“ (Business to Consumer).
