Abstract

The article explores the development of a novel wood-based membrane designed for efficient oil-water emulsion separation. This membrane, prepared through a simple dip coating process, exhibits exceptional fouling resistance and stability in harsh conditions. The membrane's underwater superoleophobicity allows it to separate oil-water emulsions with high efficiency, even in the presence of surfactants and under extreme temperatures. The membrane's performance remains consistent over multiple cycles, demonstrating excellent long-term stability. The separation mechanism is explained through the hydration layer generated by hydrophilic groups on the membrane's surface, which repels oil molecules and breaks the emulsion. The membrane's pore size and breakthrough pressure play crucial roles in determining its separation efficiency. Compared to other separation membranes, the ANF/wood membrane shows superior integrated properties, making it a promising solution for the treatment of oily wastewater.
